Rehearsals
The orchestra
rehearses on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 in the Gilroy High
School Band Room.
Participation in Other Music Programs
Students are
expected to continue in their school and/or private music
programs. We see the SVYO as enrichment beyond other
programs in which the students are enrolled. It is
important to their musical development to continue in these
programs as well as the SVYO. Participation in SVYO will
not require an inordinate amount of time, but will greatly
enhance the total musical experience available to the
students. It is not, however, a substitute for school or
private music programs.
Concerts
There will be
2-3 concerts per year. All students are required to
participate in the concerts.
Tuition
Tuition is $210
per semester . Payments are due in September and January.
Financial assistance may be available if needed.
Admission
Admission is by
audition, and is open to performers under the age of 21
(generally junior high and high school ages). Players of
any orchestral instrument are eligible. Admission is based
on the skill of the student and the need for instrumental
balance in the orchestra. An equivalent of at least 2-3
years of lessons and good sight-reading skills are required
for the Full Orchestra.

Financial Assistance
Financial
assistance may be requested, and will be awarded based on
need and the availability of funds.
Service Opportunities
SVYO may
periodically arrange for groups of students to play for
senior homes, hospitals, or other community events. This
will be on a voluntary basis.
Funding
The SVYO is
funded, in part, by grants from the Arts Council Silicon
Valley, the Theater Angels Art League, Anritsu Company, the
Gilroy Rotary Club, and the Morgan Hill Community
Foundation.
