Application/Scholarship Information

New students are accepted during the months of September and January (or later by special arrangement with the conductor). Auditions are required for all new and returning members of the Full Orchestra. Students will be expected to play a scale, a piece of their choice, and to sight-read a short selection. High school and middle school-aged students with at least 2-3 years’ of lessons and good sight-reading skills are encouraged to apply. Beginning string players, and those who need extra help with sight-reading skills, may join the Preparatory Strings group. All students, both new and returning, must fill out an Application/Student Information form each year so that we can keep our records up-to-date.

The annual tuition is $420 for the Full Orchestra and $370 for the Preparatory Strings. Payments are due in two installments ($210 each semester for Full Orchestra and $185 each semester for Preparatory Strings). Extended payment plans may be arranged by filling out a Scholarship/Payment Plan application. While we rely on tuition to cover the expenses of the orchestra, we have been fortunate to receive enough grants to offer a discount to most students who request such assistance. If you want to apply for financial assistance, please fill out a Scholarship/Payment Plan form and return it to the conductor or a board member or mail it to: SVYO, P.O. Box 1843, Morgan Hill, CA 95038. Forms should be returned by the second rehearsal. Scholarships are based on need (e.g. eligible for the Free Lunch program at school), and will generally cover up to half the tuition. All payments or scholarship applications are due at the scond rehearsal of the semester.
If we do not receive a financial assistance form, we will assume you will be paying the full tuition.

Thank you for your interest in the SVYO. To apply, please print and mail in the Application Form below.
